Breakfast at our table

A make-your-own breakfast has become one of my end-of-school traditions. Sitting together at a table, sharing food, is a meaningful way to mark special occasions. In our fast-paced, fast food culture, this ritual has become a rare experience for many of our children.

So, on our last day together before summer, each cooperative science group worked together one last time.

The children harvested mint from the garden

and mixed a delicious breakfast smoothie:

yogurt,

bananas,

a drizzle of honey, a handful of mint leaves,

and orange juice.

They also used a whisk to make fresh whipped cream.

The group then sat down at the table to enjoy a meal together. Today, our breakfast included yesterday’s banana bread (now baked) with cream cheese, banana-orange smoothie, and oranges and fresh strawberries with whipped cream. After everyone finished eating, the children cleared the table and set it for the next group.

Have a wonderful summer!
