My, what big eyes you have

Look who (hoo) showed up on campus today.

This visitor arrived sometime before school began and stayed all day, tucked just under the roof of the breezeway we walk through on our return route from the cafeteria.  The children greeted me this morning, bubbling with excitement.  On the way back from lunch, we got to practice our sneaky, nature-awareness Fox Walk, but there was no need for Owl Eyes today!  This predator patiently perched in plain sight.  'What a sharp beak you have . . .' and check out those talons!  All the better to grab prey with!

One of the children wondered why "this baby" was separated from its mama.  Upon learning that screech owls are small and ours was an adult, a first grader observed, "Well, it's the same size as my lunch box!"
